MOMBAT: Dirt Rag Magazine Articles

Dirt Rag

In the summer of 2005, Maurice Tierney (founder of Dirt Rag magazine) attended the Crossroads Cycling Festival at First Flight Bicycles. He photographed several of the MOMBAT bikes and later wrote articles to go with the bikes, starting with the "Specialty Files" in issue #106. Maurice was calling and looking for information on the bikes before finally asking us to write the articles. Our first half page Specialty Files debuted in issue #143 and graduated to a full page four issues later. Thirty+ issues later, still going strong!

While Dirt Rag was focusing on mountain bikes, a growing segment of the population was interested in using bicycles for more utilitarian uses. Dirt Rag saw an opportunity to speak to these people and started publishing the Bicycle Times magazine. The MOMBAT collection is centered around mountain bikes but also contains bikes of all areas. Starting in issue #5, the MOMBAT submitted articles for the Vintage Velos feature and has continued to contribute for 20+ issues and counting.
