    2008 Calfee Bamboo

The most common question we hear when people look at this bike: "Is that really bamboo?"  It is especially confusing since we usually have one of our Mountain Goat frames in the shop that is painted to look like bamboo.   Calfee selects the bamboo for each frame depending on the weight and riding style of the rider.   The bamboo is then smoked and heat treated to prevent splitting.  Hemp twine is used to make the "lugs".   Each frame is then coated with a stain polyurethane and comes with a 10 year warranty.  The frames are not particularly light but do offer great vibration damping.
