1987 Slingshot

The first Slingshot mountain bikes were made in 1985 so this is a relatively early version. Later versions moved the cables closer to the head tube and went to a single "boom tube" top tube. The 3M Scotchply flexible board placed in the top tube allows for some flex while the cables limit the amount of travel. The springs under the bottom bracket soften the end of the travel. The Shimano Deore XT 730 group featured the rear "U" brake, Biopace II chain rings and the white-letter shifter and derailleur set. First generation cassette hub, 6 speed, that uses the small cog for the lock ring.
