Back in this era, manufacturers were still fighting with the geometry of the bikes. The West Coast guys were doing a lot of relaxed bikes for bombing down fire roads while most of the East Coast guys were making quicker bikes for the tighter terrain of the east. I guess the idea of this bike was to be able to sell it nation wide. " From the 1985 catalog:
"At each end of the head tube are eccentric bearing cups that are clamped in place. Loosen the Allen bolts and these cups can be rotated to any position, giving you different head tube angles. 1.) With the top bearing cup back and the bottom one forward, the bike will have a 66.4 degree head angle. 2.)Top forward and bottom back gives a 71.6 degree angle. 3.) Putting both cups in the center will give you a 69 degree angle. In just seconds your bike responds the way you demand...quickly and smoothly. Any variation between these extremes may be achieved through matching of the eccentrics. Wheelbase varied from 42.15" to 43.85""
