    1983 Specialized Stumpjumper

This bike is part of the MOMBAT collection and is NOT FOR SALE.  Please check out our Vintage Bikes for Sale page to see all of our current offerings.

Specialized introduced the Stumpjumper in late 1981 as a 1982 model year bike.  1983, the second production year, brought on a few changes.  Since mountain biking was becoming more popular, companies were introducing ATB-specific parts.  Gone were the French touring bike TA cranks and MAFAC brakes to be replaced with a Sugino crank and Shimano Deore XT brakes.  This one also uses a lugged frame as opposed to the earlier TIG welded version.  These bikes were still being made in batches and spec likely changed from batch to batch based on new parts and parts availability.
