In June of 2013, First Flight Bicycles purchased the remaining stock of Hi-E components from the estate of Harlan Meyer.  His son, John, drove a large U-Haul van full of goodies from Nashville, TN to Statesville, NC.  We have been sorting through the boxes and hope to create a nice history page with a Hi-E timeline.  We will also be selling some of the parts to help folks get some Hi-E goodness for their bikes or repair some parts that they are currently using.

Please keep in mind that the parts listed below are decades old and were stored in a basement.  Since there are multiples of many of these items, condition will vary from the item pictured.  We will try to send the best condition items first.  We have multiples of many of these items so pleas contact us if you are interested in a bulk purchase.  Some of these parts may have been returns, unfinished or out-of-spec pieces so they should be considered for display purposes only.

Hi-E Cosmopolitan frame parts
: We were able to put together a couple of sets of  Hi-E Cosmopolitan frame parts.  The bottom brackets do have serial numbers. Each of these pieces are deformed or damaged in some way which is why the weren't used.  What you see is what you get in terms of the number of pieces but each set varies slightly.  Very cool paperweights or display case jewelry.   $125 set

Hi-E hub centers
: Just something interesting for the vintage bike enthusiast.  Set of 6 different color front hub shells.  It appears as is the black centers are slightly different on the ends and the silver ones are not engraved.  We have a couple of sets so the set you get may vary slightly from the picture but will include the 6 different colors.   Maybe make a nice wind chime out of 'em?
 $25 set

Hi-E pedal plates
: Got a set of Hi E pedals with missing, damaged or worn plates?  Dress 'em up with a set of new plates.  Or, do you just like having something that nobody else does?  Great way to stump that "know it all" bike nerd!
 $25 pair

Hi-E pedals
: Hi E pedals were ahead of their time.  The cantilevered design with an single oversized bearing was later copied by Shimano for their AX series of parts.  These pedals were leftovers so the are not cosmetically perfect or matched.  Some of the bodies were polished while others were raw.  These may have been rejects so let's consider them for display only.  Great conversation pieces or interesting pedals for that wall hanger bikes.

Hi-E hub spacer
#1: Hi E made an apparently endless variety of hub spacer/end caps for their hubs.  There are 2 pictures to the left.  The first is a picture of the actual spacer and the second will be an illustrated pictures with the dimensions of the spacers.  We are doing these for $10 each which sounds like a lot for a small piece of metal but there was a tremendous amount of labor spend separating all the spacers out and cataloging them.  Plus, $10 is a cheap way to save a hub or be able to modify one for a different duty.

Hi-E Hi-Lo Rear hubs
: All Hi-E hubs are old stock and have sat around for (likely) decades.  These hubs may have sat around due to some type of imperfection so keep that in mind.  Some of the bearings feel a bit rough which might also explain why they are still around.  Let's just call these display pieces.  This is a 28 hole (14/14) hub with the hi-lo flanges.  Each hub comes with 5 end caps so it can be configured in various widths. Color is black with silver flanges.     $75

Hi-E Crank Blanks
: Harlan made some interesting cranks the were very low profile and used press fit cartridge bearings; sound familiar?  These are the blanks for those cranks and they were being hand worked but never finished.  We are selling these as a random pair and you can see from the photos, the level of finish varies.    $40 per pair

Single Image
Hi-E Truing stand parts
: These are the wheel holders along with other pieces that were assembled onto some square steel tubing to make the Hi-E truing stands.  The main pieces are the wheel holders and there are 2 sets which are spaced to accommodate the different width rear ends.  The other pieces were then spaced for front wheels.  The Truing stands listed for $210 back in the 1970's so I suspect they are pretty rare.  Add some square tubing and make your own!  $40 for all

Hi-E Skewers
: One of the more famous Hi-E parts.  These weigh approximately 49 grams per pair. Nylon wing nut on one end and closed end steel nut on the other end.  These may vary slightly in appearance from the picture since we have several sets.  Should work for most bikes with 120 or 126 spacing  $35 per pair

Hi-E Skewers
: One of the more famous Hi-E parts.  These weigh approximately 46 grams per pair. Black alloy ends with "slow release" pins.  Some pins are short alloy rods while other use a steel roll pins. Most of these have some paint loss on the black due to rolling around in various boxes for decades. These may vary slightly in appearance from the picture since we have several sets.  Should work for most bikes with 120 or 126 spacing  $45 per pair

: Not made by Hi-E but used in the wheel sets. New Old Stock spokes (many in original packaging) 15/17/15 double butted spokes.  Chrome plated but they are many decades old.  There are approximately 100 spokes but figure +/- 10% or so.  Available in several sizes.   $50 per hundred

Hi-E unfinished pedal bodies
: Like to see how things start out?  If so, here is an opportunity to buy a pair of Hi-E raw pedal bodies.  These appear to be cast and are in a raw unfinished state.  After this, they were drilled, tapped and polished.  Interesting thing to show your cycling friends and see if they can figure out what they are.  $10 per pair

Hi-E Cool Gear "The Seat" seat rails
: Replacement rails for the Cool Gear "The Seat". These appear to be made from tubular stainless steel.  We have been told there were 1975 (aluminum), 1976 (stainless steel) on 1977 versions of the rails.  These should be the 1976 version which fits 1976 and 1975 saddles.  More details as the become available.  $20

Single Image Hi-E Belt Buckle: Great Hi-E schwag!  Aluminum (of course) belt buckle imprinted with the Hi-E logo.  Not 100% sure these were ever completely finished but do contain some mounting hardware.  Some are shopworn but we will ship the best ones first (very limited quantities)  $40

Single Image Hi-E spoke nipples: Super lightweight minimalist design, for 15 gauge spoke, true from the tire side with a hex wrench (one wrench included for every nipple purchase). These were weighed and put into bags, minimal weight of 45grams which is about 200 nipples.  Most of the bags are closer to 250 nipples but figure on 200 and the extras are a bonus.  $25

Single Image Hi-E Pop Stopper (PopSave2): For those of you who have to have the complete set of goodies from Harlan Meyer/Hi-E, the Pop Stopper!  Almost looks like something you would see on late night TV and we had no idea what they were until we found a drawing for them.  "Press fits into a soda pop bottle and keeps it lively."  $5

Single Image Meyer Service and Engineering golf score card: Designed to clip onto your golf cart and hold tees, pencil and score card.  Neat addition to your Hi-E collection!  Have something that nobody else has.  $25

Single Image Hi-E fork crowns: Designed by Harlan Meyer for the Cosmopolitan frames.  These appear to be machined from billet aluminum.  You are purchasing one crown, I just pictured 2 so you could see the top and bottom.  Business card is for scale.  Neat item $25

Hi-E fork kit: We were able to assemble a very small number of fork kits from leftover parts.  The crown is aluminum with upper legs pressed in and pinned.  The lower legs were slipped into the upper legs and would have been glued in place.  Includes a roughly 12" piece of 1" steel for a steerer tube.  Doesn't include dropouts but they were just plate aluminum. Great conversation starter.      $250

Single Image Hi-E water bottle cages: Nice lightweight hollow aluminum water bottle cages.  These attach to the frame with a standard automotive hose clamp which makes them a great choice for those older bikes without braze-ons.  Available in a raw finish, polished silver or black.  Black or polished $25
